The Wagner Laboratory, based at Boston Children’s Hospital, focuses on vascular cell biology, studying the role of adhesion receptors in inflammation and in thrombus formation.

The lab is seeking a Research Assistant I who will, under general supervision, perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory tests, specimen preparations and experimental procedures for the purpose of research. Assists in the use of specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data generated by this equipment. The research assistant will work mostly with mice, combining genetic approaches with disease models.

This Research Assistant I will be responsible for:

  • Performing a variety of laboratory tests (PCR, Western Blot, microscopy, Flow Cytometry, buffer preparation, etc.) and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy.
  • Work closely with research staff and will maintain records of results and methodologies. Compile and help analyze data, prepare charts, graphs, and results of studies.
  • Independently maintain equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner. Assist Lab Manager in the storage and disposal of biohazardous, flammable, corrosive and toxic materials. Carry out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols. Assist Lab Manager in annual inventory of all chemicals and reagents.
  • Trained to maintain the animal colony including genotyping mice in a timely manner, maintenance of breeding cages, maintains an always up-to-date database of mouse cages etc.

In order to qualify, you must have:

  • Knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry or a closely related field with lab experience and experience working with mice.
  • Willing to make a 2-year commitment.
  • Analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles.
