The Manager, HIM (Health Information Management) ROI (Return on Investment) and Scanning Operations coordinates and manages the actions of the Health Information Management Department. Ensures compliance with all organizational policies and procedures, applicable laws, including all rules and regulations governing hospital medical records.

The HIM ROI and Scanning Operations Manager will be responsible for:

  • Remaining compliant with laws on confidentiality, fees for release of information, and BCH policies and procedures regarding confidentiality and release of information.
  • Managing and delegating task assignments and projects, and conducting staff meetings to provide ongoing education and training.
  • Providing recommendations for technical solutions to enhance productivity and resolve issues; overseeing Epic work queues and secure electronic delivery of PHI.
  • Collaborating with vendors to ensure all ROI requests and audits are completed accurately and on time, participating in and guiding electronic system enhancements alongside BCH Information Systems and Epic.
  • Ensuring release of information requests are handled accurately, promptly, and in compliance with request authorizations, BCH policies, HIPAA, HITECH, and state/federal laws; reporting release volumes and quality to monitor operational efficiency.
  • Escalating situations/issues to the HIM Director, Legal, Risk, and Compliance departments as needed.
  • Ensuring fulfillment of third-party payer audit and risk adjustment requests, facilitating systematic review and production of medical records in compliance with state/federal laws and BCH standards.
  • Overseeing coordination with Audit Coordinators, scheduling audits, liaising between auditors and departments, and ensuring all necessary documentation is prepared and accessible.
  • Responding to audit denials and appeals in a timely manner to ensure accurate revenue capture and retention.
  • Entering and recording payer audits in third-party software, managing completion times, and coordinating with Revenue Cycle staff to track audit outcomes effectively.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely capture, indexing, and quality review of scanned medical record documents.
  • Monitoring and supporting BCH departments with scanning workflows and providing reference guides for teams.
  • Collaborating with various departments on new initiatives and projects to streamline medical record document processes.
  • Testing functionality and enhancements with third-party document management systems and Epic HIM improvements.
  • Creating and revising Epic/Onbase/Solarity HIM workflows to reflect scanning updates and ensure processes are efficient.
  • Overseeing daily operations and workflows to ensure documents are accurately available in the EMR on time.
  • Assessing quality of work performed, providing guidance on electronic system enhancements, and collaborating with the BCH IT Team on support and system improvements.

To qualify you must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of health information management is preferred.
  • Current registration as a Registered Health Information Administrator RHIA or equivalent is preferred
  • Eight years of experience is required
  • Management experience is required
