Performs radiographic procedures employing the use of the Dual energy X ray Absorptiometry DXA bone densitometer to produce quality images of various anatomical structures of the body for Bone Mineral Density BMD and Body Composition Analysis BCA. Operates the peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography pQCT scanner to produce higher resolution images of bone in the arm or leg for bone density, strength and quality measures. Archives and prints DXA and pQCT reports for physician interpretation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviews and evaluates bone density exam requisitions for clinical appropriateness; positions and immobilizes patients across all age groups and conditions.
- Informs and educates patients and families about procedures and radiation exposure; assesses and adapts based on their ability to participate.
- Follows radiation safety (ALARA) and hospital policies; monitors and reports changes in patient condition.
- Operates DXA and pQCT scanners, performs quality control, routine maintenance, and reports equipment issues.
- Manages scheduling, patient data entry, and maintains organized files and statistics for program oversight.
- Orders necessary supplies, completes special projects as assigned, and pursues ongoing professional education and policy updates.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- An Associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology required
Experience:
- 6 months of related experience required
- Certification by the International Society for Clinical Densitometry ISCD will be offered as a part of training
Licensure/ Certifications:
- Current Massachusetts license as a Radiologic Technologist required
- Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Registration ARRT certification required
