Under general supervision of a Pathologist, independently performs or assists in accessioning, dissection, evisceration, description, autopsy, and histologic sampling of a full range of surgical specimens. Assists faculty in the supervision and training of entry level resident physicians and fellows in pathology. Leads the day-to-day operations of the Cutting Room, Morgue and Cardiac Registry.
Primary Responsibilities:

Specimen Handling: Performs dissection and gross description of a full range of surgical pathology specimens ensuring accuracy in dictation and appropriateness of tissue for microscopic evaluation.

Operations Management: Leads the day-to-day operations of the Cutting Room, Morgue, and Cardiac Registry, ensuring delivery of routine services, preparing work schedules, and delegating assignments.

Staff Recruitment and Management: Assists with staff recruitment, onboarding, and retention activities, including participation in hiring interviews, performance evaluations, and acting as a liaison for human resources issues.

Education and Training: Serves as Preceptor to Pathology Assistant students and new department personnel, and orients and trains medical students, residents, fellows, and less experienced personnel.

Compliance and Quality Assurance: Maintains and updates technical policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards, performs QA/QC audits, and assists with process improvement initiatives.
Requirements:
Education
- NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant Master’s degree Or Pre-2010: Bachelor’s and 3 years supervised internship
Experience
- 6 months experience as a Pathologists’ Assistant
License/Certification
- PA (ASCP) Certified
