Job Summary:

Reporting to the SVP, Chief Compliance Officer, the VP of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) will serve as the key leader responsible for providing oversight, innovation, and strategic direction to design, stand-up, and rollout a comprehensive ERM program for the Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) system. This role will work collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels to embed ERM principles and practices into organizational decision-making and operations, driving a consistent and integrated approach to risk management. As the leader of the ERM program, the VP will set the vision for risk governance, champion a risk-aware culture, and deliver actionable insights that promote informed decision-making across BCH.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Risk Leadership: Plans and executes the design, launch, and rollout of a formal ERM Program. Develops the framework to identify, assess, and mitigate risks, safeguarding BCH’s reputation, financial health, and long-term success.
  • Executive Reporting: Reports regularly to senior leadership and the Board on the risk profile, offering actionable insights and recommendations. Serves as a trusted advisor on risk-related matters across the enterprise.
  • ERM Council Leadership: Provides oversight for a council of senior leaders dedicated to ERM, co-directed by the SVP, Chief Compliance Officer, and SVP, Chief Safety and Quality Officer. Facilitates cross-functional collaboration to ensure a unified approach.
  • Risk Coordination & Culture: Aligns ERM activities across departments and divisions. Builds a culture of risk awareness by engaging stakeholders at all levels, ensuring consistent practices throughout the organization.
  • Data & Metrics: Oversees aggregation and analysis of risk data. Enhances predictive analytics using internal and external data. Develops performance indicators and metrics to assess and improve program effectiveness.
  • Risk Assessment: Partners with Internal Audit to lead the annual enterprise-wide risk assessment. Identifies and evaluates risks across operational, financial, strategic, compliance, and other domains.
  • Technology Implementation: Directs the evaluation, selection, and deployment of technology solutions to support ERM activities, improving efficiency and scalability.
  • Emerging Risk & Innovation: Identifies emerging risks and industry trends, integrating best practices and proactive strategies to ensure resilience.

Qualifications Required:

  • BA degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field; MA degree preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience in enterprise risk management, risk advisory, or internal controls; 5+ in leadership.
  • Exceptional collaboration, communication, and presentation skills; proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents.
  • Strong strategic thinker with a record of innovation, efficiency, and problem-solving.
  • Successful track record of results in a complex, matrixed organization and capacity to lead change.
