Position Summary
Boston Children’s is looking for Pharmacy Technician III candidates to fill our 40-hour rotating positions. We are offering a $5000 sign on bonus for this position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Following established policies and procedures, filling and delivering prescribed medication orders as directed by a registered pharmacist.
  • Preparing patient medications in accordance with established protocols, methods and techniques.
  • Measuring, mixing and compounding automated TPNs, irrigations, chemotherapy drugs and parenteral and oral medications in specified volumes, dosages and concentrations.
  • Preparing special dilutions of non-controlled and controlled substances, IV and research study medications as needed.
  • Providing training to new technicians and assisting in organizing daily workflow to meet established priorities and production requirements.
  • Filling supply requisitions, restocking pharmacy locations and nursing units. Performing routine quality control and maintaining various records and documentation.

Minimum Requirements:
Education/ Certification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Currently registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.
  • Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcareer Association.
  • Completion of a Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy approved training program or a minimum of 500 hours worked as a pharmacy technician trainee.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years Pharmacy Technician experience, including at least 1 year in hospital setting.
  • Experience with Non–sterile compounding path i. Pediatric pharmaceutical calculations ii. Complex non-sterile compounding b AND/OR Sterile compounding path i. Sterile compounding iii. Patient-specific sterile refill batch fulfillment, patient-specific new sterile order fulfillment iv.
  • At least one of the following: Non-patient specific ICU batch fill, ED Pharmacy Tech, Infusion Clinic, parenteral nutrition or chemotherapy.
