Performs a variety of specialized laboratory tests. Assures quality of the results and communicates the relevance of results to the requesting clinician / researcher / clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performing a variety of moderately and highly complex specialized laboratory testing, including testing unique to specific disciplines in the laboratory.
- Determining whether the results are abnormal and takes appropriate action internally/externally according to laboratory guidelines. Recording results of tests with all supporting documentation for clinical/research interpretation.
- Performing regularly scheduled quality control, preventative maintenance, and calibration of equipment according to laboratory guidelines. Performing all troubleshooting and repair.
- Participating in continuing education, including training programs expanding the scope of knowledge in sciences/medicine.
- Training and teaching laboratory personnel and other clinical staff. Communicating the principle/theory to trainees.
- Contributing to the department’s continuing education. Observing, guiding, verifying, and checking documentation of less experienced lab personnel, as needed.
- Assisting in the operational effectiveness of co-workers and acts as a lead as needed. Contributing to efficient workflow by taking initiative and filling in as needed. May assist in various other operational duties as assigned.
- May perform a variety of special projects or additional work as needed/assigned, including participating in new test development and evaluation. Drafting procedures as directed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in general sciences or closely related field
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years’ laboratory testing experience
The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
