Under the supervision of an in-house licensed Perfusionist, monitors and controls extracorporeal perfusion apparatus during cardiopulmonary bypass surgery and related procedures on patients of all ages. Operates and maintains equipment, monitors and evaluates physiologic data and makes adjustments in perfusion parameters and fluid and/or medication additions as needed to ensure satisfactory bypass. Administers prescription drugs, blood products and anesthetic agents through the extracorporeal circuit and induces specified physiologic conditions, such as hypothermia and circulatory arrest, as ordered by a physician.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and manage the provision of perfusion for surgical cases, including selection and preparation of equipment and materials.
- Conduct extracorporeal circulation during surgical procedures under physician direction.
- Monitor physiological variables to maintain adequate cardio-respiratory functions and adjust equipment settings accordingly.
- Maintain ongoing communication with medical staff and accurately record and document procedures.
- Ensure equipment functionality, participate in quality improvement activities, and provide educational support within the hospital.
Minimum Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Perfusion Technology
License/Certification
- Current MA license as a Provisional Perfusionist
- No certification and/or pending results of certification by ABCP
The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
