Department Summary:
Under general supervision and in accordance with established procedures, codes and standards, repairs, replaces and maintains piping, fixtures and equipment for existing branch lines of steam, hot and cold water, lubricating, sprinkling and process systems throughout the hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responding to routine and emergency service requests via on line work order, radio dispatch or as assigned by Group Leader/Supervisor.
  • Installing and maintaining piping for water, steam, sanitary waste, drainage and other related systems within scope of licensure. Cutting, threading, bending, assembling, installing and sealing pipes, valves and fittings composed of various materials using a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Pressurizing and inspecting pipes/connections for leaks, resoldering joints and repairs, adjusting and replacing valves.
  • Installing, securing and maintaining system fixtures and equipment such as sinks, toilets and sprinklers. Screwing threaded pipes and fittings together, bolts or solders connections and attaches fixtures to walls or ceilings.
  • Communicating with customer departments as needed to clarify job specifications and minimize any disruption of department services/operations.
  • Completing, filing and/or routing a variety of logs and records required to document work performed and ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School / GED and up to 1 year of basic technical training required
  • Basic Technical Training required

Experience:

  • 1 years’ experience required
  • 3 years of facilities experience preferred
  • Hospital experience preferred

Licensure:

  • Current Massachusetts Plumber or Pipefitter licensure required

Shift/hours:

  • Tuesday – Saturday: 3:00pm – 11:00pm

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
