Inside Track – Internal Mobility
We know how important it is to cultivate talent from within Boston Children’s. That’s why we created the award-winning Internal Mobility program, “Inside Track,” which proactively engages and retains our people by supporting their goals and facilitating upward and lateral movement across our entire organization.
Here, Inside Track will enable you to develop your skills, demonstrate competencies in new and different ways, and advance through a journey that’s your own – without ever being alone.
At Boston Children’s, there’s more than one way to get to your goals – and we’ll be there every step of the way.
Success Stories
Innovative Initiative Award Winner
In 2019, Boston Children’s was awarded the Innovative Initiative Award by the Boston Women’s Workforce Council for the innovation and impact of the Internal Mobility on time to promotion for women. The internal mobility program was part of a targeted group of initiatives aimed at proactively engaging and retaining internal talent by encouraging, assessing and facilitating upward and lateral movement across the Boston Children’s Enterprise.
Growing places
Following the formal launch, Internal Mobility (IM) held info sessions for managers and employees to educate and share their insight and experiences with the program. As of October 2021, we have facilitated over 40 cross-functional transfers in the enterprise. These employees could have had an established career at BCH for many years in the same position, and we are here to help them overcome hurdles and open up avenues to new career paths.
Workforce development
In empowering our people to reach their goals, we’ve created a host of innovative Workforce Development programs that provide education, mentoring, career coaching, English language skills, and more. They include:
ESOL & pre-college classes
We offer a robust course catalog that includes English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) courses offered for a variety of skill levels. The catalog also includes pre college courses in english, math, computer skills, citizenship, and more.
College for America
Education & Career Coaching
You will have the opportunity to meet with an Education and Career Coach to receive the guidance you need to develop a career or education plan, return to school, review on and off-campus courses, and explore ways to finance your education.
COACH – Community Opportunities and Advancement at Children’s
The COACH (Community, Opportunities, and Advancement at Children’s Hospital) Internship program was established to provide summer health care employment opportunities to widely diverse Boston-area high school students.
Students are referred to the COACH Internship Program through several community-based organizations throughout the Boston area. Since the program started in 2007, over 900 students have participated. Most have gone onto college after their experience in our program, and several have been hired by Boston Children’s Hospital.
