United in our individuality.

Our people, our culture.

Boston Children’s Hospital is where the world’s families come for answers. To be a part of our team is to know that every contribution you make can make a profound difference. It’s to understand that the care we provide includes everything from brain surgery to food service. And it’s to experience the promise that every act of kindness inspires healing and growth – not just for our patients, families, and colleagues – but for our communities alike.

At the heart of caring for our patients and their families are the skills, experiences, and contributions of our team members. We strive to recruit the best candidates to ensure that we meet the complex needs of our local, domestic, and international patients. By attracting top talent from different backgrounds, we foster an environment of excellence and innovation, where every team member can thrive and contribute to our shared mission of delivering remarkable care.

The Declaration on Equity and Diversity

As we plan and strategize for the future, Boston Children’s Hospital’s Declaration on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity’s goals recognize the impact of racism on children’s health, promote optimal health for our diverse patients, and make Boston Children’s a welcoming place for all who seek our care — and every person who works here. Our declaration memorializes Boston Children’s Hospital’s commitment to diversity in our community, and helps ensure that every employee at Boston Children’s Hospital understands the goals of the organization with respect to providing a work environment that promotes respect, equity, inclusion, collaboration, and commitment to one another.

These goals are our commitment, inspiration, and inform every decision we make. Here are just a few:

  • Boston Children’s is committed to being an inclusive environment that does not tolerate any form of racism, discrimination, or bias.
  • Boston Children’s is committed to eliminating structural racism from all policies, guidelines, and practices.
  • Boston Children’s is committed to being a leader in eliminating child health disparities in our community and our nation.

Office of Health Equity and Inclusion

Health disparities pose a serious threat to children from marginalized populations. In response to this, we’ve created The Office of Health Equity and Inclusion to close the gaps in health and health outcomes. Ensuring an inclusive environment that does not tolerate any form of racism, discrimination, or bias is central to all that we do.

In pursuing our objectives, we work collaboratively with divisions and departments at Boston Children’s and Harvard Medical School, including the Office of Faculty Development, the Boston Children’s Academy for Teaching and Educational Innovation and Scholarship, Health Affairs, the Office of Graduate Medical Education, the Office of Experience, and Human Resources.

Nursing Career Lattice Program

Boston Children’s Hospital is committed to building a strong nursing workforce via initiatives that welcome and support individuals who wish to become nurses. All hospital employees in good standing with one or more years of Boston Children’s work experience are eligible to apply to the hospital’s Nursing Career Lattice Program (NCLP).

The NCLP provides need-based financial assistance to program participants who are selected annually. Program assistance augments the hospital’s existing benefit program e.g., additional tuition remission and provides academic counseling, mentorship, and resources for NCLP employees who wish to pursue an Associate degree (AD to BSN) or Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN). NCLP participants also receive coaching to support NCLEX completion and to guide their transition to an initial clinical setting upon completion of the program.

Our Unique Employee-Led Groups

At Boston Children’s Hospital, we have a robust community of Employee-Led Groups (ELGs) that support and celebrate our entire workforce and expand our sense of inclusion and belonging.

These groups strengthen our commitment to an inclusive, respectful, and kind work environment for all our employees, and recognizes the meaningful impact that a diverse workforce has on teamwork, innovation, employee engagement, and patient care.

Our ELGs are open to all Boston Children’s employees, and anyone is welcome to join one or more employee-led groups.

The Children’s Health Equity (CHEq)

At the core of our efforts is the Children’s Health Equity Initiative (CHEq), a part of Boston Children’s Collaboration for Community Health. This initiative supports collaborative projects within specific Boston communities to improve the health and well-being of children and families. The projects will foster new and long-lasting systems that promote and strengthen neighborhood cohesion.
