A Full-time Research Assistant I is needed to join Yingjie Lu’s lab and work on vaccine development against bacterial pathogens and understand the mechanism of protection induced by vaccination. This is an excellent opportunity to work at a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School and become involved in and learn cutting-edge microbiological and immunological techniques.

This Research Assistant I will be responsible for:

  • Performing a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experiments, specimen preparations, and experimental procedures. Assisting in the use of specialized laboratory equipment and analysis of data
  • According to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules, performing a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness and accuracy
  • Attending courses in safety procedures for handling, storage and disposal of biohazardous materials. Carries out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols
  • May need to handle mice

To qualify, you must have:

  • The knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in a science is required
  • Experience in molecular cloning and protein purification
  • Interest in immunology and vaccinology
  • The analytical skills to resolve problems that require the use of basic scientific, mathematical, or technical principles
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
