The Database Administrator III will be responsible for:
- Performing installations and maintenance on MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server databases and related products on all supported platforms. Notifying Systems and SAN teams of capacity needs.
- Collaborating, monitoring, and implementing backup strategies.
- Performing product evaluation and trials as part of a continuing effort to improve productivity of existing software. Working with cross-functional teams to implement vendor products and custom-developed applications.
- Interacting with application and infrastructure staff, as well as end users and vendors, to design, evaluate, and implement new MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server applications.
- Being responsible for documenting and following through to satisfactory resolution/completion all MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server problems by adhering to problem-solving and escalation procedures/standards at Boston Children’s Hospital. Notifying supervisors/managers of problem areas and developing backup strategies and emergency plans.
- Performing the quarterly maintenance of MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server databases to meet the hospital’s production business and clinical needs.
- Performing and documenting backups, restores, tuning, patching, installation, and configuration of database software.
- Coordinating routine activities with operators, application support staff, production control staff, and others as necessary to maintain the production environment.
- Providing consulting services as needed to peers, operations staff, application staff, research computing, and end-user services.
- Providing input to project managers and team leaders for project planning and implementation, including backup and restore strategy planning, capacity planning, performance tuning, design strategy, and system architecture.
- Mentoring and helping junior teammates with troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues.
To qualify you must have:
- High School degree or equivalent is required
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred
- Five years of related experience is required
- Work requires the analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of scientific or technical principles, theories and concepts and in depth, experienced based cross functional knowledge.
- Candidates from New England Region are preferred.
