Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking an experienced Windows System Administrator. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining our Windows-based infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.
The responsibilities include provisioning, installation / configuration, operation, maintenance, monitoring and technical support of the Boston Children’s Hospital production, development and disaster recovery computer systems and related infrastructure. Work will include interacting with Application, Database Administration, Network Support, Operations and End User groups along with vendors to design and evaluate and implement new computer systems and associated applications. Provide support and consulting to other IT groups and the user communities.

The Systems Administrator II will be responsible for :

  • Performing system management activities for current and future computer systems, related hardware, software, and networking components.
  • Performing system group activities in accordance with established departmental goals, participating in, and documenting any other projects within the Systems Management group.
  • Maintaining performance statistics and providing performance tuning and systems security.
  • Participating in hardware and software upgrades as needed.
  • Recommending new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in the operations of the computer hardware and system software.
  • Participating in the evaluation of current and projected demands for services and the current and projected state-of-the-art hardware and software solutions.
  • Performing product evaluations and trials as part of a continuing effort to improve productivity of existing equipment, staff time, and software systems.
  • Coordinating and maintaining communication links, data interdependencies, and Production Jobs’ relationships among the various operating systems and hardware platforms.
  • Adhering to problem resolution and escalation procedures, taking responsibility for documenting and responding to all operating system problems, and resolving them on a timely basis.
  • Coordinating activities with the Computer Operators, Application Support staff, Production Control, and others as necessary to maintain the Production Environment.

To qualify you must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required in the field of computer science or a closely related field
  • 3 years’ of related experience as System Administrator is required
  • Hands on expertise and knowledge of Windows Server operating systems (2012, 2016, 2019, 2022) is required
  • A working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, VMware, networking concepts and a knowledge of scripting languages is required
  • Experience with Linux (RedHat), AWS, Azure, would be a plus
  • This position is Hybrid
