Position Summary/Department Summary:

This social work leadership position provides direction, leadership and management to clinical social workers, resource specialists and associated personnel in Integrated Primary Care Behavioral health, Emergency Psychiatry Services, Psychiatry Consult Service, Inpatient and Outpatient Psychiatry Services, Community Based Acute Treatment (CBAT), Boston Children’s Hospital Neighborhood Partnership (BCHNP), Adolescent Substance Use & Addiction Program (ASAP/ASAP-PC+), BCH satellite locations, and future behavioral health expansion for social work

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs and leads Behavioral Health in the Social Work Department to ensure effectiveness and efficiency for key functions and processes; Collaborates with leaders in clinical settings to ensure Social Work services are provided in accordance with Social Work hospital/department and regulatory standards and requirements.
  • Develops and implements plans for the development of departmental staff through training programs, supervision, individual learning activities and recognition.
  • Works collaboratively with leaders of clinical departments and delegates’ authority, responsibility and work appropriately among subordinates or subordinate work units.
  • Works with Social Work Supervisors and Program Managers to provide consistent direction, clinical supervision and ongoing training for social work staff.
  • Prepares and monitors the department budgets, confirming plans and strategy with Sr. Director. Monitors operational and financial targets and variations in line with budget expectations.
  • Collaborates with Patient Services, Hospital Compliance and others to ensure compliance with government regulations, Joint Commission requirements and third-party payer requirements.
  • Manages the operational needs of the department. Ensures coordination with ISD, Facilities, Marketing, outside vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Monitors performance feedback and plans, develops and implements activities to improve the individual and collective performance of the staff in providing services to patients and families.
  • Direct and develop staff to look at service delivery workflows and processes and identify opportunities for improvement of these outcome metrics.
  • Manages program development, the recruitment process and interviews prospective social work candidates and make recommendations for hiring.
  • Collaborates with departments throughout the enterprise in the hiring of Social Workers.
  • Leads individuals and work groups to continuously improve performance by creating an environment that ensures application of quality principles and techniques to achieve desired outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree in social work

Experience:

  • 8 years of progressively responsible social work experience as a licensed Social Worker, including a minimum of 3 years of social work supervisory/management experience.
  • Experience in a pediatric medical environment highly preferred
  • Flexibility and ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent communication skills are necessary.

Licensure/Certifications:

  • LICSW Licensure in state of MA
