Position/Department Summary:

Phlebotomy Supervisor supervises the day-to-day function of the Phlebotomy team and service both for inpatients and outpatients. Ensures that specimens for ordered laboratory tests are collected and handled correctly and expeditiously. Maintains a safe and professional environment for patients, clients, and employees. Functions independently within broad scope of established policies and goals. Refers specific problems to the Technical Laboratory Supervisor or Manager or Director where clarification, interpretation, or exception to hospital policy, may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervising phlebotomists and ensuring all daily work assignments are completed by appropriate staff at all sites.
  • Creating schedules to meet needs for all locations (inpatient/outpatient/satellite sites).
  • Managing, motivating and developing staff. Conducting performance reviews and recommends hires, promotions, pay increases and disciplinary action.
  • Working with Human Resources to ensure smooth hiring, onboarding, progressive discipline and termination processes. Performing payroll transactions in Kronos for all direct reports.
  • Ensuring current policies, processes, procedures and reference tools are accurate and available to staff. Developing and implementing new departmental policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring phlebotomy staff and operations are in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements, consults Lab Quality Program as needed.
  • Maintaining communications with customers and clients of the laboratory.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School / GED required
  • Associated degree in Allied health or related studies preferred

Experience:

  • 4 years’ Phlebotomy experience required
  • 1 year of basic technical training in lab pre-analytical techniques preferred

Licensure:

  • Current certification as a phlebotomist by a national certifying agency (e.g. ASCP) is required

Shift/hours:

  • Day Shift: 8:00am – 4:30pm, can change depending on the needs of the department
