The ECMO Educator is responsible for developing, maintaining, and evaluating training and education activities for mechanical circulatory support programs. This role provides direct clinical care to patients of all ages requiring mechanical circulatory support in critical care settings. The ECMO Educator also plays a key role in evaluating devices, establishing protocols in collaboration with ECMO Leadership, and monitoring program outcomes and trends through data management and benchmarking.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates training and educational activities for mechanical circulatory support programs.
- Monitors and operates mechanical circulatory devices in accordance with established standards of care.
- Provides direct clinical care to patients requiring mechanical circulatory support across all age groups.
- Evaluates new and existing mechanical circulatory support devices and techniques; collaborates with ECMO Leadership to establish protocols.
- Tracks and analyzes program outcomes through maintenance of internal and ELSO databases, monitoring of complications, and benchmarking activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy or Perfusion Technology required
- Master’s Degree preferred
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of neonatal/pediatric acute care experience, including 3–5 years of ECMO experience required
- 10 years of neonatal/pediatric acute care experience preferred
Licensure/Certification:
- Current Massachusetts license as a Respiratory Therapist or Perfusionist required
- RRT-NPS certification required
