Per Diem Nurse Practitioner, Emergency Medicine
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing individualized care to the emergency department’s long-stay patient population, which is mostly comprised of patients boarding for definitive psychiatric care. Daily responsibilities will include:
- Providing individualized care for up to 12 patients per day
- Performing a physical examination and addressing urgent medical needs
- Attending morning rounds with the ED Psychiatry team and the charge nurse to review the plan for each patient
- Supporting the nursing staff and the Behavioral Response Team in treating ED patients with acute agitation and unsafe behaviors using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological de-escalation techniques
- Depending on shift type and departmental needs, other responsibilities may include:
- Providing emergency care to infants, children and young adults in a fast-paced, Level 1 Trauma Center with trauma-related, surgical and medical illnesses of various acuity and complexity.
- Collaborating with a supervising physician to conduct patient assessments and physical examinations, and to diagnose and treat health problems.
- Reviewing and addressing abnormal test results that come to the ED results pool
- ED NP per diem requirements:
- The per diem NP will be required to work 18 hours per month. Approximately 6 shifts per 3-month schedule block.
- Three weekend shifts per three-month period are required
- Holiday requirements:
- Summer: One shift (day) of either Memorial Day, July 4th or Labor Day
- Winter: One shift (day) of either Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- A Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN)
Experience:
- Pediatric acute care experience preferred.
- At least one year of RN/NP experience in an acute care setting preferred.
Licensure/ Certifications:
- A Current Massachusetts NP License, either a PNP/FNP license
