Collaborates with the Principal Investigators and clinicians to develop cardiovascular medical devices and technologies for translation to commercial devices and clinical therapies. Apply strong analytical and experimental skills to design and develop new technologies including the integration of new devices with 3D models, clinical imaging and computational simulation during the development process.
Key Responsibilities
- Conceptualize, design and develop new medical devices and technologies including surgical and catheter devices, 3D modeling and simulation techniques in collaboration with team Design and conduct benchtop experiments to complement and/or refine designs and validate computational modeling studies as part of the development process.
- Work with cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, and nurses to obtain patient information, understand clinical need, refine the design and apply the new technologies.
- Collaborate with lab staff, clinicians, and statisticians to design experiments and write protocols.
- Perform statistical analysis of experimental results. Prepare oral and written reports for presentation locally and at technical conferences and for publication in scholarly journals.
- Document inventions and research and assist with preparation of intellectual property filings.
Minimum Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Science.
Experience
- Expertise in mechanical design and computer modeling and design software Experience prototyping, development of benchtop models and device testing and validation with 3D printing experience a plus. Basic knowledge of the mechanics of soft tissues.
- Programming proficiency in one or more scientific computing languages
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with both medical and engineering personnel.
- Ability to work with diverse internal and external constituencies
