Position Summary/ Department Summary:
Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Inpatient Orthopedics

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive care of Pediatric Orthopedic patients from newborn through young adult admitted to a busy surgical service.
  • Attending surgical rounds, ordering and interpretation of diagnostic tests, pre-and post-op care/counseling, surgical wound management, and casting/bracing.
  • Coordination of care including admission, specialty consultation, management of medical comorbidities, patient education, and discharge.
  • Responding to emergent situations. Triage/ family calls.
  • Provide specialty consult expertise to inpatient wards/ICU/community providers.
  • Working primarily in Boston, however, required flexibility to rotate to a satellite location (Waltham) as needed. Schedule: 36 hours per week, three 12-hour shifts Monday through Friday, 7a-7p, rotate into weekend coverage monthly. (Optional holiday shifts)

Minimum Qualifications
Education:

  • A Masters Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies

Experience:

  • Previous experience as a PA/NP in pediatrics, orthopedics or other related area is strongly preferred
  • A strong desire to work in the pediatric orthopedic setting.
  • Ability to work in collaboration with a large group of orthopedic surgeons, trainees, and multidisciplinary staff is essential.
  • Analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of clinical, scientific or technical principles, theories and concepts and in-depth, cross-functional experience-based knowledge.
  • Communication skills to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions, and well-developed writing skills.
  • A high level of flexibility and a solution-based mindset in order to manage urgent and often unpredictable situations that arise in an inpatient setting.

Licensure/ Certifications:

  • A current MA license to practice as a NP (FNP or PNP) or PA

**Sign-on bonus of $4,500.00 for fulltime (36 hours) NP/PA hires (who have not worked at BCH in the past 2 years.)
