Nurse Practitioner, Urology- Primarily inpatient with some ambulatory coverage at least monthly
Key Responsibilities: Working 36 hours per week which includes rotating day shifts of 8,10 and 12 hours and every other weekend.
Inpatient Responsibilities:
- Performs a complete history and physical exam and interprets findings.
- Diagnoses and manages common clinical problems of the identified patient population
- Plans, implements, and evaluates the treatment plan in an interdisciplinary manner.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic studies and therapeutic interventions necessary to augment the patient’s physical findings and treatment plan. Communicates these findings to the health care team, patients, and families.
- Participates in discharge planning with the health care team.
- Writes orders, prescriptions, and progress notes in the patient medical record. Dictates patient discharge summaries, and communicates to the primary care providers.
- Participates in the daily patient care rounds, interdisciplinary conferences, and teaching activities of the service.
- Communicates the patient’s condition and plan of care to the patient and family. Engages in health teaching and counseling with the patient and their family in collaboration with the health care team.
- Performs selected diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Participates in formal and informal teaching activities with staff nurses, physicians, interns and residents, and other members of the health care team.
- Communicates clearly and concisely with the health care team and appropriately consults and utilizes resources to meet the patient’s needs.
- Maintains clinical competency and ongoing professional development through continuing education, professional activities, and self-evaluation.
Ambulatory Responsibilities:
- Supporting the Urologist-of-the-Week (UOW) through triaging and managing clinical inquiries via Epic in-basket
- Completing comprehensive chart reviews and summaries for patients undergoing evaluation for a second opinion
- Covering urgent clinic appointments on an as needed basis
- Covering General Urology clinic on an as needed basis
- Performing in-person post-operative visits
- Writing orders and prescriptions
- Reviewing and signing prior authorizations, letters of medical necessity, durable medical equipment scripts
- Completing peer-to-peer reviews
- Engaging in health teaching and counseling
- Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team
- Communicating clearly and concisely with the healthcare team, patients, and families
- Maintains clinical competency and ongoing professional development through continuing education, professional activities, and self-evaluations
- Ability to work at the Boston Children’s Hospital Urology Satellites as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- A Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) for Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies
Experience:
- 1-3 years of PNP/PA experience preferred
- Previous ICU or inpatient surgical experience preferred
Licensure/ Certifications:
- MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse- PNP or Physician Assistant
*Sign-on bonus of $4,500.00 for part-time 36 hours per week (for candidates who have not worked at BCH in the past 2 years.)
