Collects blood from patients of all ages for the purpose of diagnostic testing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Completes order entry of tests into the LIS. Gathers and documents necessary clinical information. Refers questions regarding information to appropriate clinician.
- Selects appropriate venous puncture site based on knowledge of pathophysiology. Performs phlebotomy for collection of blood for clinical and research testing.
- Monitors individuals to ensure comfort, safety and adequate blood flow. Monitors individuals for adverse reactions.
- Selects and prepares collection tubes/containers, paperwork, labels and forms. Has knowledge of testing requirements for clinical tests including special handling requirements.
- Monitors and stock supplies. Notifies appropriate staff when re order levels are reached.
- Provides positive customer service that supports departmental and hospital operations. Performs and records quality control measures to insure accurate equipment performance, making and documenting necessary adjustments. Participates in continuous improvement efforts.
- Contributes to the teamwork within and between departments and organizations.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School / GED required
Experience:
- At least 6 months Phlebotomy experience preferred
Licensure:
- Current certification as a phlebotomist by a national certifying agency (e.g. ASCP) is preferred
Shift/hours:
- Monday-Friday: 9:00am-5:30pm, including rotating weekends and holidays.

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
