Position Summary / Department Summary:

The Manager of Network Engineering is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the hospital’s IT network infrastructure. This role ensures that all network systems, including LAN, WAN, and wireless networks, are reliable, secure, and efficient. The Manager leads a team of senior network engineers, manages network performance, troubleshoots issues, and implements upgrades and improvements to support hospital operations. This role works closely with IT staff, clinical departments, and administrative teams to support clinical and administrative functions, ultimately contributing to the hospital’s mission of providing high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of 5–6 senior network engineers, balancing technical expertise with setting priorities and driving accountability.

  • Conduct performance evaluations, career development planning, and mentoring to foster growth and retention.

  • Oversee resource planning, staffing, and succession planning to meet current and future IT needs.

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust LAN, WAN, and wireless network solutions to ensure scalability, redundancy, and high availability.

  • Direct network infrastructure projects, including cloud migrations, network expansions, and modernization initiatives, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.

  • Monitor network performance, implement proactive maintenance schedules, and manage incident response protocols to minimize downtime.

  • Develop and maintain standardized network documentation, policies, and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and audit readiness.

  • Develop and implement network security protocols, including firewalls, intrusion detection, VPNs, and segmentation, ensuring HIPAA and regulatory compliance.

  • Partner with IT leadership, clinical teams, and administrative departments to align network initiatives with hospital objectives.

  • Present regular reports on network status, performance KPIs, and improvement plans to senior management.

  • Manage vendor, consultant, and service provider relationships, overseeing contracts and ensuring high-quality service delivery.

  • Lead enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity planning to ensure uninterrupted clinical and administrative operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering)

  • Master’s Degree preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years of network engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership/management role

  • Experience leading tenured/senior engineering staff and managing team performance evaluations

  • Hands-on experience with LAN, WAN, wireless networks, cloud infrastructure, and network security technologies

  • Proven track record of leading network projects, including upgrades, expansions, and cloud migrations

  • Experience ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other healthcare regulations

  • Strong skills in vendor management, resource planning, and cross-functional collaboration
