Department Summary

The Computational Health Informatics Program (www.chip.org) at Boston Children’s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School affiliate, is seeking an experienced full stack web developer to join the SMART Health IT team (http://smarthealthit.org). As a member of the team that has literally defined the national standards for healthcare data APIs and populational level clinical data and created a number of widely adopted open source projects in the space, you will be at the center of data innovation in healthcare.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to translational science in a university hospital environment where data, technology, and clinical expertise converge. You will help develop tools and analyses that directly inform precision medicine and AI-driven clinical care, while working alongside leaders in biomedical informatics, genomics, and data science.

Position is hybrid and onsite Tuesday through Thursday.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain free and open source software using open standards, especially FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) and UMLS (Unified Medical Language system).
  • Support AI- and ML-based studies using Docker, Linux, and distributed computing environments.
  • Collaborate with clinicians data scientists to translate complex datasets into actionable clinical insights.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in a STEM field (Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Engineering, Mathematics, or related discipline).

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience
  • Experience with frontend web development, including HTML, Javascript, React and CSS
  • Familiarity with backend development including NodeJs and SQL
  • Full stack ability and willingness to learn and implement at any level from raw health data to clinician facing UI.
  • Familiarity with FHIR, AWS, Docker, and Linux preferred.
  • Interest in biomedical data science and clinical informatics.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability, collaborative spirit, and scientific curiosity.

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
