Position Summary:
This Athletic Trainer functions to support the physician within their capabilities, including evaluation, intervention, taping, and home exercise programs. The athletic trainer acts as a liaison between the patients, the doctors, and support staff. Assists support staff in daily duties and triage and ensures communication and coordination with both hospital and outside communities.

This role will split time in the clinical offices at the main hospital, and at Wellesley High School. This is a full time role with some weekends expected.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works under the supervision of and follows existing protocols of medical staff/physician in the clinical office setting and/or community school Athletic Training room setting, including but not limited to applying injury preventative devices, such as tape, bandages, or braces; performing sideline or Athletic Training Room injury assessments with immediate care provided; utilize treatment modalities as needed if accessible, and assess need for referral for further medical evaluation.
  • Instructs Sports Medicine clinical patients on crutch training and bracing adjustments pre and post-procedure.
  • Provides basic support in the MSK ultrasound clinics and medical sports medicine clinics to triage and evaluate patients during a clinic, performing as a scribe when appropriate, and assist in entering orders for advanced diagnostic imaging orders, physical therapy, or DME.
  • Assesses appropriate referrals from the community, community schools, and athletic events to the clinic. Assists triage and support staff with urgent phone calls and messages to ensure communication and coordination with patients within BCH and outside communities.
  • Is available to help staff BCH Sports Medicine-sponsored community outreach events with school sports teams and city-wide sporting events.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required

Experience:

  • Ability to travel between the Boston/Longwood clinical offices and Wellesley High School
  • Analytical skills to collect information from diverse sources, apply professional principles in performing various analyses, and summarize the information and data in order to solve problems OR design relatively complex systems and programs
  • Communication skills in order to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions, or well developed writing skills

Licensure/ Certifications:

  • An Athletic Trainer Certification is required
  • National Athletic Trainer Association certification and licensure through the Massachusetts Board of Allied Health.

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
