Provides technical assistance and support for cardiac cauterization procedures, as directed by a physician. Prepares patient, room and equipment for procedure. Provides assistance during procedures, including injecting contrast dye, monitoring, measuring and recording patient hemodynamic data and recording, developing and editing radiographic images.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing patient and room for procedures. Placing electrocardiograph leads on patients, prepares procedure sites and drapes patients.
- Setting up and arranging instruments for physicians and labels radiographic films to be used
- Testing and calibrates physiologic monitoring equipment and monitors hemodynamic data during diagnostic procedures.
- Measuring, monitoring and recording electrocardiography readings, heart rate and blood pressure, analyzing blood gases and performs other related physiologic studies during procedure.
- Identifying and notifying physicians of abnormal or irregular readings.
- Performing angiograms as directed by a physician. Injects contrast media, positions patient and radiographic equipment and records required images. Developing and editing film at completion of procedure.
- Maintaining knowledge of current trends, practices and techniques and developing technical skills through attendance at in service programs, conferences and other continuing education programs.
- Monitoring inventory and identifies and reports items to be reordered.
- Cleaning and organizing procedure room at completion of examinations. Collecting and prepares EKG tracings and other physiologic data and paper recordings for physician.
- Cleaning and sanitizing room using specified cleaning agents and sets up equipment for next scheduled patient.
- Establishing supportive relationships with patients and families. Identifies patients’/families’ specific needs and incorporates into patient care as appropriate.
- Explaining examination procedures to patients/parents and answering questions within scope of knowledge and authority.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A High School diploma or GED and up to one year of basic technical training in an Allied Health field
- Bachelor’s degree in Science preferred
Experience:
- No previous experience plus three to six months of time on the job
Shift/hours:
- Part time 36 hours per week, Monday – Friday including on call weekends
The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
