The Department of Dentistry at Boston Children’s Hospital is one of the largest pediatric dentistry services providers in New England. We treat more than 29,000 patients each year, caring for toddlers, young children, adolescents, and some adults with special health care needs. We are currently hiring a Surgical Scheduler to join our team. Candidates will be evaluated and placed at Level II or Level III based on experience, competencies, and alignment with career ladder criteria.
Level II— Surgical Scheduler II
Experience: Minimum 2 years of healthcare admin experience. 1 year of direct surgical scheduling experience required for external candidates.
Salary Range: $20.63-$31.46
Typical Responsibilities:
- Coordinates and schedules inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures, ensuring accurate daily OR schedules with required equipment and resources.
- Communicates with surgeons, physicians, and staff to confirm schedules, manage additional OR time, and relay critical updates.
- Maintains and verifies scheduling data in hospital systems, including patient information and insurance authorizations.
- Distributes schedules and supports pre-surgical needs such as consults, while responding to routine inquiries and escalating complex issues.
- Collaborates with clinical teams to improve OR efficiency, supports staff onboarding/training, and assists with reporting and metrics.
Level III— Surgical Scheduler III
Experience: Minimum 3 years of healthcare admin experience. 2 years direct surgical scheduling experience for external candidates.
Salary Range: $21.47-$33.55
Typical Responsibilities:
- Serves as team lead, supporting the supervisor with planning, prioritization, delegation, and coverage in their absence.
- Coordinates and schedules surgical procedures, ensuring accurate OR schedules, equipment needs, and efficient use of block and non-block time.
- Communicates with physicians and staff to confirm schedules, allocate additional OR time, and share critical updates on availability and requirements.
- Maintains scheduling systems, verifies patient and insurance information, distributes schedules, and coordinates pre-surgical consults.
- Drives operational efficiency by optimizing OR utilization, supporting staff training/onboarding, resolving/escalating issues, and assisting with reporting and metrics.
Schedule: M-F, hybrid, 8:00-4:30 or 8:30-5
The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
