Position Summary / Department Summary:
The mission of the Department of Pharmacy is to provide excellent and innovative pharmaceutical care to patients and the community through safe, collaborative practices that integrate education, research, and technology.
Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a full‑time Pharmacist to join the Pharmacy Informatics team. This 40‑hour position dedicates approximately 32 hours per week to Pharmacy Informatics responsibilities and 8 hours per week to inpatient pharmacy operations staffing, maintaining a strong connection to frontline clinical practice.
This role works closely with frontline pharmacy staff, the Inpatient Willow Team, Information Technology, and other hospital partners to support medication‑use systems, optimize workflows, and advance safety‑focused technology initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
Inpatient Pharmacy Operations (Approx. 8 hours/week)

  • Provide inpatient clinical pharmacy services in accordance with departmental and hospital standards.
  • Review, verify, and dispense medication orders for hospitalized pediatric patients.
  • Evaluate medication orders for appropriate drug therapy, dosing, and monitoring; identify and address potential adverse drug reactions.
  • Support controlled substance distribution, non‑sterile compounding oversight, inventory management, discharge prescriptions, and daily medication supply processes.
  • Verify work performed by pharmacy technicians and interns; provide supervision and support as needed.
  • Provide drug information and patient education when appropriate.

Pharmacy Informatics & Workflow Optimization (Primary Role – Approx. 32 hours/week)

  • Serve as a clinical informatics pharmacist supporting pharmacy operations and medication‑use workflows within the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Work directly with frontline pharmacy staff to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve workflow, system, and technology‑related issues.
  • Partner with the Inpatient Willow Team to assess Epic workflow or build issues and recommend optimal clinical solutions.
  • Participate in Epic Willow Inpatient testing, validation, and optimization activities.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., revenue cycle, billing, Information Services) to support medication‑related billing and charging workflows.
  • Provide support for planned and unplanned system downtimes, including participation in informatics on‑call coverage.
  • Contribute clinical expertise to complex initiatives such as IV workflow optimization and smart IV pump integration and interoperability.
  • Translate clinical workflow needs into clear system requirements and recommendations.

This is not an Epic Willow Inpatient Builder role. The position requires advanced Epic knowledge and close collaboration with Epic analysts and builders rather than primary ownership of Epic build.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy required; Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) preferred

Experience:

  • Hospital pharmacy experience highly preferred
  • Experience with or strong interest in pharmacy informatics, medication‑use systems, and workflow optimization
  • Epic Willow Inpatient certification desired (candidates with significant Epic Willow experience who can obtain certification are encouraged to apply)

Licensure:

  • Massachusetts Pharmacist License or Massachusetts Pharmacy Intern License required. Interns must obtain pharmacist licensure within the first 90 days of employment

Schedule & Coverage:

  • Primarily day shift
  • Approximately 8 hours/week inpatient staffing
  • Approximately 32 hours/week Pharmacy Informatics
  • Includes informatics on‑call coverage
