Position Summary
The Data Architect defines, designs, and governs the organization’s data architecture to ensure data is integrated, secure, high quality, and aligned with business and clinical objectives. This role establishes data models, standards, and integration patterns, collaborates across IT and business teams, and provides architectural guidance so solutions adhere to enterprise principles, regulatory requirements, and performance expectations. The Data Architect provides oversight for the Data & Analytics Center of Excellence in partnership with the Executive Director of Data & Analytics and Enterprise Architecture.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain enterprise conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Define integration standards and data movement patterns.
  • Collaborate with data governance to implement data standards and quality controls.
  • Provide architectural oversight to projects throughout the lifecycle including ERP, EHR, eRA, and M365.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to domain roadmaps; assist with aligning IT strategies to short- and long-term business goals.
  • Grow the Architecture capability by contributing to the Community of Architects.
  • Translate between technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Define key performance indicators and promote best practices.


Knowledge and Skills

  • Deep understanding of data modeling, metadata, lineage, master data, analytics lifecycle, data governance practices, frameworks, and operations.
  • Proven expertise in developing architecture, data standards, and Master data management strategies and their implementation in the enterprise data management arena.
  • Broad swath of technology skills in Data Warehouse appliances, SQL programming, PL/SQL development, Performance tuning of Queries, BI/Reporting tools like Microsoft PowerBI/Strategy, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, Epic, Workday, Alation etc.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data systems and data governance principles, particularly within a healthcare setting.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical and governance-related concepts into business impacts for leadership.
  • Ability to thrive in a team setting; as well as being extremely comfortable engaging end user communities through various forms of communication-meetings, newsletters, workgroups, etc.
  • Must possess a “systems approach” to solving problems and issues.


Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Management, Information Systems, or related field


Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in data management or engineering, including 5+ in architectural or leadership roles

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
