Position/Department Summary:

Under general supervision and following established standards, policies and procedures, installs, inspects, tests, repairs and replaces window air conditioning units and refrigeration equipment for air conditioning hospital buildings, preserving food, making ice and cooling water.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responding to routine and emergency heating/cooling, ventilation, refrigeration and facilities automation and control service requests via on-line work order, radio dispatch or as assigned by group Leader/Supervisor.
  • Planning assigned work by selecting and obtaining needed equipment and materials and determining appropriate sequence of tasks.
  • Trouble shooting and repairing Basic Facilities Automation and control components. IE: thermostats, VAV box controllers, Both Pneumatic and DDC Cooling Valves, Heating valves and sensors etc.
  • Installing and maintaining refrigeration Equipment. IE: Ice machines, DX split systems and Refrigerators/Freezers.
  • Pressurizing and inspecting piping/tubing for leaks, soldering joints, repairing, adjusting and replacing valves and refilling or reclaiming refrigerant as needed.
  • Installing and maintaining air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, fixtures and component parts. Disassembling devices as necessary and removing, adjusting, cleaning, lubricating and/or replacing mechanical parts/equipment such as motors, compressors and filters.
  • Trouble shooting and repairing basic heating ventilation and cooling issues pertaining to VAC box systems, Air Handlers, and Fan coils.
  • Maintaining communication with other engineering department personnel in order to plan and coordinate work assignments and describe and refer problems/issues outside scope of authority/trade.
  • Completing, filing and/or routing a variety of logs and records required to document work performed and ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining neatness and safety of work area. Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment in working condition, reporting items in need of repair or replacement to Group Leader/Supervisor.
  • Maintaining technical knowledge and skills through attendance at in service and continuing education programs and participation in other related activities.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School/GED and up to one year of basic technical training

Experience:

  • 1 year of experience required
  • 3 years of facilities experience preferred

Licensure:

  • Current Massachusetts Refrigeration Technician License is required

Shift/hours:

  • Tuesday – Saturday: 11:00pm – 7:00am

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
