Position Summary
The Labs of Cognitive Neuroscience at Boston Children’s Hospital seeks a full-time Computational Health Informatics Data Manager II to support research on development, neurodevelopmental disorders, and rare genetic conditions, including:

  • Baby Steps Project: A longitudinal study tracking EEG and cognitive, language, and social development from infancy through early childhood to improve early identification of developmental delays and autism in diverse populations.
  • Data infrastructure initiatives, including database development and administration and harmonization of neuroimaging, behavioral, and clinical data across longitudinal studies for secondary analysis.

This hybrid position is based at Two Brookline Place, Brookline, MA, with a minimum two-year commitment and potential for continued employment and professional growth based on performance, project needs, and funding.

The role oversees data quality across assessments, including questionnaires, behavioral observations, neuroimaging, and medical records, from collection through publication. Regular participant interaction is not required, though understanding data collection procedures is helpful, and opportunities to shadow study visits are available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee quality and management of longitudinal, multimodal research data. Develop audit tools and workflows to reduce errors; document changes to study measures and collection procedures, including version control.
  • Develop and maintain data infrastructure, including REDCap projects and Python tools. Collaborate with PIs and research staff to design, build, and validate a SQL database for large, harmonized datasets; ensure final data outputs are complete and accurate.
  • Improve data processing and harmonization pipelines throughout the study lifecycle. Support questionnaire, clinical, EEG, and medical record data using established standards and software.
  • Develop scoring scripts and automated workflows for data cleaning, preprocessing, and statistical analysis. Use AI-assisted tools where appropriate and validate outputs.
  • Coordinate data access and sharing, including collaborator requests, data use agreements, secure transfers, repository submissions (e.g., NDA), and IRB-required changes.
  • Train data collection staff on data management workflows and technologies; guide staff developing data tools.
  • Support progress reports and grant submissions by preparing preliminary datasets and streamlining recurring reports.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, biomedical engineering, biostatistics, biomedical data science, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of full-time clinical research data analysis or coordination experience, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and experience with REDCap.
  • Experience cleaning and validating large datasets, maintaining documentation, and preparing data for statistical analysis using scalable workflows.
  • Experience with longitudinal datasets and harmonizing complex health research data across studies; knowledge of developmental science and neuroscience.
  • Strong communication and writing skills, including collaboration with multiple investigators and training research staff.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to data accuracy and completeness; ability to work independently and solve problems proactively.
  • Familiarity with clinical research data protection best practices, including HIPAA requirements.
  • SQL programming and relational database design experience, including databases for large research datasets, preferred.
  • Experience with Brain Imaging Data Structure (BIDS) preferred.
  • Experience processing and managing EEG data preferred.

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive benefits package that includes flexible schedules, affordable health, vision and dental insurance, child care and student loan subsidies, generous levels of time off, 403(b) Retirement Savings plan, Pension, Tuition and certain License and Certification Reimbursement, employee discounts and discounted commuter benefits at certain locations. Experience the benefits of passion and teamwork.

Boston Children’s and its affiliates are all Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employers. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to their race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, protected veteran status or disability.
