The GPU is a procedural unit running 5 days a week for both ambulatory and inpatients. The GPU performs a wide range of non-sterile procedures: examples include; therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopic and colonoscopic procedures, PICC line placements, IUD placements, LPs, Sedated ABR testing, etc. *This position is a flex position which will also cover Interventional Radiology as well as other Surgical and Procedural areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing patient triage/chart review to facilitate needed procedures and clinical supports for patients and families with medical needs ranging from acute to chronic.
- Conducting patient/family interviews and documenting patient histories, psychosocial histories, health status, and medical problems or potential problems.
- Working collaboratively with clinical anesthesia staff, GPU nursing and multiple referring BCH specialty providers.
- Communicating necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of anesthesia to patients and families
- Working 20 hours per week including 8,10- and 12-hour day/evening shifts M-F
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- A Master of Science in Nursing and certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner or Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
Experience:
- 1-3 years of RN/NP/PA acute (hospital) experience required.
- Perioperative experience preferred.
- Pediatric experience preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills.
Licensure/ Certifications:
- MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse of a Physician Assistant
