Position Summary
Working closely with the IBD Center Director and Associate Director and members of the interdisciplinary GI team. Approximately 50% (5 clinical sessions per week) of this time will be spent in direct patient care of children with IBD and other gastrointestinal disorders through an urgent intake clinic, both in Boston and in our outreach clinics (Lexington and Needham). The remainder of the role will be focused on patient education, support of our very early onset IBD program, and support for patients participating in clinical studies. The mission of the multidisciplinary Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center is to provide comprehensive assessment and treatment of children, adolescents and young adults with Inflammatory Bowel Disease from around the world.

Key Responsibilities
• Function with a high level of independence in caring for children and young adults with Crohn Disease and ulcerative colitis.
• Show innovation and leadership in developing and recommending policies and procedures to improve the quality, family-centeredness and cost-effectiveness of patient care within the IBD program.
• Assess and treat new and return patients, under the supervision of a physician.
• Act as primary communicator for patient questions and phone calls; and assisting with prior authorizations and refills.
• Provide comprehensive patient education for patients with new diagnoses as well as those starting new treatments.
• Triage new referral cases and second opinions to IBD Center; review of outside medical records; communicate with referring physicians and new patient families as needed to facilitate referral.
• Identify patient educational needs and lead/coordinate the development of educational materials.
• Plan, organize and oversee policies and procedures designed to improve the patient/family experience.
• Serve as member of the IBD Quality Improvement team.
• Schedule: 36 hours, 2 8’s and 2 10’s

Monday (8): admin day and pager 430pm-830pm (12-830)- remote
Tuesday(8): admin AM, clinic PM- Boston
Wednesday: off
Thursday (10): AM/PM sessions- alternating between Lexington and Needham
Friday (10): alternating between every other Friday AM/PM in Needham and program coordination time (remote)

Average is 4 clinic sessions, and 1 remote pager coverage session per week

Minimal Qualifications
Education
• A Master of Science in Nursing or Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies

Experience
• Experience working with children with chronic illness, knowledge of long term medications and drug interactions.
• Strong physical assessment and diagnostic skills as well as patient education, and coordination of care skills.
• Ability to travel to outreach locations, as the NP will see patients at Longwood campus as well as our satellite locations
• Prior experience with pediatric gastroenterology patients and/or clinical research preferred.

Licensure/Certifications
• Current MA NP or MA PA license with PNP or FNP certification
