The Nurse Practitioner in Perioperative Anesthesia collaborates closely with perioperative and anesthesia teams to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care across the surgical continuum. Nurse Practitioner, Surgical and Procedural Areas in both Ambulatory (Needham and Waltham) and Inpatient (Boston) settings. **This is a permanent flex role where the provider will be covering known leave of absence in designated areas.**
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborating with perioperative and anesthesia teams to provide comprehensive care to patients preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively in the operating rooms at our Boston, Waltham, and Needham sites
- Conducting patient and family interviews; obtaining and documenting medical history, review of systems, and physical examinations as part of the pre-anesthetic evaluation
- Educating patients and families regarding the necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of anesthesia, and obtaining anesthesia consent
- Serving as a consultant and educator to perioperative nursing staff
- Participating in or leading data collection and quality-improvement initiatives related to anesthesia cancellations, criteria changes, and process improvement
- Acting as a liaison among the anesthesia attending, primary anesthesia team, nursing staff, and families to optimize patient care and communication
- Prescribing and administering premedication prior to anesthesia
- Assisting anesthesia teams in procedural and clinical care areas with vascular access
- This role is fully on site for 10-hour shifts, 3 or 4 days per week 6:30am-5pm. No nights, weekends or major holidays.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Master of Science in Nursing
Experience:
- At least 5 years of nursing experience required, pediatric experience preferred but would consider those with applicable adult experience (OR, Anesthesia, Perioperative assessment, ICU).
Licensure/ Certifications:
- Current Massachusetts licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (FNP or PNP)
The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
