Position Summary/ Department Summary:
Assists the medical staff in examining and caring for children with eye problems. performing basic eye examinations under the supervision of an ophthalmologist. Able to perform Ophthalmic Technician I job duties

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs basic eye exams under ophthalmologist supervision, including history-taking, visual acuity testing, lensometry, tonometry, and administering eye drops.
  • Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to support patient visits and maintain efficient clinical workflow.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, well-stocked clinical environment and prepares exam rooms as needed.
  • Orders supplies and supports departmental and hospital compliance, including Joint Commission patient safety goals.
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patients and families and ensures educational materials are created and available.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience as an ophthalmic technician or equivalent required
  • Experience in pediatric ophthalmology preferred

Licensure/ Certifications:

  • Current registration as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA certification) required
  • Current registration as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT certification) preferred

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
