Research Assistant II and Lab Manager for the Laboratory of Joseph Majzoub, MD, Division of Endocrinology, Department of Pediatrics, Boston Children’s Hospital.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain multiple mouse colonies including breeding, genotyping, with accurate records. This is one of the most important roles
- Maintain records of experimental methodologies and results in a log of work performed (Lab Archives online notebook).
- Work with PI and independently to design and perform experiments
- Perform a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and analyzing outcomes for completeness and accuracy.
- Mouse necropsy and tissue processing
- Mouse tissue histological analysis using light microscopy, immunofluorescence, RNA in situ hybridization (RNAscope)
- ELISA, RIA, qRTPCR
- Cell culture ideal but not required
- Maintain equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat manner.
- Process orders for supplies and animals
- Assist PI to write and amend animal protocols
- Collaborate with other members of the Majzoub lab and with other laboratories in the Endocrinology department
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, or related field
Experience:
- At least 1 year experience managing laboratory mouse colonies
- Preferred experience with PCR, ELISA, RIA, immunocytochemistry, RNAscope
- Good problem-solving skills and independent work ability
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
