Position Summary/ Department Summary:
Research Assistant II and Lab Manager for the Laboratory of Joseph Majzoub, MD, Division of Endocrinology, Department of Pediatrics, Boston Children’s Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain multiple mouse colonies including breeding, genotyping, with accurate records. This is one of the most important roles
  • Maintain records of experimental methodologies and results in a log of work performed (Lab Archives online notebook).
  • Work with PI and independently to design and perform experiments
  • Perform a variety of routine laboratory experiments and procedures, utilizing standard laboratory equipment, recording and analyzing outcomes for completeness and accuracy.
    • Mouse necropsy and tissue processing
    • Mouse tissue histological analysis using light microscopy, immunofluorescence, RNA in situ hybridization (RNAscope)
    • ELISA, RIA, qRTPCR
    • Cell culture ideal but not required
  • Maintain equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat manner.
  • Process orders for supplies and animals
  • Assist PI to write and amend animal protocols
  • Collaborate with other members of the Majzoub lab and with other laboratories in the Endocrinology department


Minimum Qualifications
Education
:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, neuroscience, or related field

Experience:

  • At least 1 year experience managing laboratory mouse colonies
  • Preferred experience with PCR, ELISA, RIA, immunocytochemistry, RNAscope
  • Good problem-solving skills and independent work ability
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
