Position summary
The Clinical Ethicist provides formal and informal ethics consultations and participates in clinical ethics rounds while collaborating with clinical teams, patients, and families to address ethical issues in pediatric health care and research. The role develops ethics resources and educational initiatives for the Boston Children’s Hospital community, participates in hospital policy development and review related to ethical considerations, and serves as a facilitator for strengthening moral responsibility and ethical culture across the organization. The position also maintains consultation records, supports multidisciplinary collaboration, and engages in ongoing professional development within the field of clinical ethics.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead interdisciplinary ethics consultation teams and provide timely, high-quality clinical ethics consultations
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call ethics consultation coverage to ensure responsive support for urgent ethical issues
  • Serve on the Hospital’s Ethics Advisory Committee, subcommittees, task forces, and working groups, including presentation of clinical cases for review and discussion
  • Provide expert ethics consultation and guidance to clinicians, patients, and families in complex clinical situations
  • Develop, lead, and participate in ethics education programs and initiatives that support reflective practice in pediatric care
  • Contribute to the development, review, and implementation of hospital-wide ethics policies and clinical guidelines
  • Maintain accurate electronic records and documentation of ethics consultations and related activities
  • Engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration and participate in professional ethics activities, including academic events, conferences, publications, and mentoring

Minimum qualifications

Education:
Master’s degree in Bioethics or a related field required

Experience:
Minimum of three years of clinical ethics consultation experience required
Healthcare experience in a pediatric hospital or health system preferred
Clinical degree in a health profession strongly preferred

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
