Position Summary
Join the world-renowned Department of Cardiac Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital, part of the Benderson Family Heart Center, where expert multidisciplinary teams provide advanced surgical care for infants, children, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Physician Assistant to work within a high-acuity, high-volume congenital cardiac surgery program known for innovation, exceptional outcomes, and collaborative, patient- and family-centered care. The PA will play a critical role assisting in the operating room and working collaboratively in the ICU.

Key Responsibilities

  • Function as a first assist in complex cardiac surgical procedures
  • Provide comprehensive care to patients undergoing congenital cardiac surgery across inpatient and perioperative settings
  • Perform preoperative evaluations, consultations, and patient/family education, including surgical consent discussions
  • Participate in daily rounds in the Cardiac ICU and respond to urgent/emergent clinical situations
  • Collaborate with surgeons, intensivists, and multidisciplinary teams in developing and implementing postoperative care plans
  • Support discharge planning and ensure smooth transitions of care for patients and families
  • Contribute to a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within a highly specialized cardiac program

Schedule: Clinical schedule will include a combination of operating room time, ICU coverage and perioperative outpatient care determined by service needs.

Minimal Qualifications
Education
• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Experience

  • Prefer a minimum of 1 year of surgical first assisting experience. Prefer candidates with cardiac surgical experience adult or pediatric.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cardiopulmonary physiology and critical care management
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and ability to manage complex, high-acuity patients
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced academic surgical environment

Licensure/Certifications
• Current license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to practice as a Physician Assistant

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
